The Twark (small figure on right) is a small rodent remarkable for two things. In the first place it lays an extremely small egg (see Bec & Cäül, page 50). The egg is so small that it cannot be seen with the naked eye. Indeed it cannot be seen with a magnifying glass - or even with an electron microscope. It is, in fact, the smallest particle known to science - so small that some scientists even doubt whether it exists at all. Nevertheless, the Twark goes on happily making its nest and laying its eggs as it always has done, and as if everybody could see them and had absolutely no doubts about wheher they existed or not. And pherhaps the Twark is right, for no matter what they may thing about the Twark's egg's lack of physical presence, all goblins agree that it smells and tastes of corduroy trousers. For the famous poem "Ode to a Twark's Egg" by the poet Brêgg, see page 79.

The second remarkable thing about the Twark is that is washes itself on the inside but not on the outside. It is, consequently, an extremely smelly animal, but a great kisser.
