Goblin Companion Back Cover

This artistic book was originally published in 1986 with the title The Goblins Of Labyrinth. At some point it went out-of-print, but was re-printed in 1996 (by Turner Publishing in the United States, by Pavilion Books in the United Kingdom) with the title The Goblin Companion. The original book The Goblins of Labyrinth has eight beautiful full color centerfolds by Brian Froud which are missing from the reprint.

The original goal of "The Goblins' Library" was to bring you information regarding three of the four Labyrinth books. (Since beginning "The Goblins' Library", I've discovered more books!) Stephanie Massick has already typed up Labyrinth: A Novel, and I've scanned Labyrinth: The Photo Album. I wasn't planning on doing the same for The Goblin Companion thinking it was still available. However, a recent search at Amazon.com showed that this book is now also out-of-print! I suggest finding it while you can, and Amazon has several Marketplace sellers offering copies.

A few years back, after fretting that The Goblin Companion was also now out-of-print, I had discovered that Barnes and Noble had reprinted the reprint. Even more good news, the Barnes and Noble version was a better find than the Turner Publishing version: the full scale of The Goblins Of Labyrinth had been restored. Sadly, the eight centerfolds were still missing, but at least you could enjoy the full size pages. Unfortunately, the large-size Barnes and Noble edition has also gone out of print.

out-of-print small version Turner Publishing dimensions: 6" x 8.5" or 15 cm x 22 cm
re-print large version Barnes and Noble dimensions: 9.25" x 12.25" or 23 cm x 31 cm

Used copies can be purchased at the B&N website, but the product overviews do not specify the dimensions. As of April 2011, two entries are listed: one is the small 1996 Turner print, the other publisher listed is "Sterling" with a 1998 publication date. I don't know if "Sterling" an imprint of the Barnes and Noble publishing group, or if it is possibly another British publisher. I seem to recall that Sterling is a UK publisher which printed The Goblin Companion in its smaller 6" x 8.5" dimensions back when there was only the small-scale version on the market, but Amazon.co.uk doesn't support my feeble memory. I guess I'm getting Sterling confused with Pavilion.

In September 2006, Harry N. Abrams published the Deluxe 20th Anniversary edition edition of The Goblins Of Labyrinth with even more artwork than the original and a new afterword from Brian Froud. I'll be scanning the covers soon and providing more publication information and details of how this version differs from previous ones.

You can read some of The Goblins Of Labyrinth at the page for The Goblin Companion. There are significant gaps in the online version because most of the book has not been added to "The Goblins' Library". The reason for this is due to some form of the book shifting in and out of print for 25 years! The orginal goal for this site was to make available the out-of-print and, therefore, highly expensive collectible Labyrinth books, and I just don't feel right offering something when you can legitimately purchase a brand-new copy. Please consider this section as a teaser to encourage you to purchase The Goblins of Labyrinth - Deluxe Edition, Hardcover from the bookseller of your choice! Currently, Amazon.com is offering a great discount.
